Emerging From Darkness: Faith, Emotion and The Body in The Baroque

Emerging From Darkness: Faith, Emotion and The Body in The Baroque brings together over seventy significant Baroque works by world-renowned masters – including Peter Paul Rubens, Bartolomeo Manfredi, Guercino and Valentin de Boulogne – in a world premiere. In particular, the exhibition celebrates the stories of three female artists: Artemisia Gentileschi, Lavinia Fontana and Sofonisba Anguissola. Emerging from Darkness was made possible through a partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria, as well as loans from the National Gallery of Australia and private lenders from across the country, displaying these works together in Australia for the very first time. The show also includes contemporary works by artists Robyn Stacey and Angela Tiatia, who both work within Baroque-reminiscent styles. The exhibition at Hamilton Gallery runs until April 14, 2024.
