24th Biennale of Sydney: Ten Thousand Suns

The Biennale of Sydneyhas enlisted Fondation Cartier as visionary partner for its 24th iteration. The theme of Ten Thousand Suns celebrates the multiplicity of perspectives, cosmologies and ways of life under the central, life-giving body of the sun, which in many cultures is not singular. Alongside over one hundred artists presented across the heritage-listed White Bay Power Station and exhibition partners Art Gallery of New South Wales, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chau Chak Wing Museum at The University of Sydney, UNSW Galleries and the newly reopened Artspace, Fondation Cartier’s powerful new projection commission on the Bennelong sails of the Sydney Opera House celebrates the work of First Nations artists from all over the world. The new nightly commission Badu Gili, by two celebrated First Nations artists, Gail Mabo and Nikau Hindin, explores ancient practices of celestial navigation. Badu Gili opened on December 15, 2023, and the Fondation Cartier commission continues through the 24th Biennale of Sydney, which runs from March 9 to June 10, 2024.
