Triennial

NGV Triennial 2023 brings together the work of 100 artists, designers and collectives at the forefront of global contemporary practice around three key thematic pillars: Magic, Matter and Memory. Magic explores the shaping force of spirituality through belief systems, allegory and symbolism, while Matter foregrounds the role materials and the natural world play in shaping human culture. Memory, in turn, looks to the histories of the people, places and objects that have influenced the course of the world up to the present day. Artists include Agnieszka Pilat, Schiaparelli, Ryan Gander, Hito Steyerl, Maurizio Cattelan, Sheila Hicks, Timo Hogan and Tracey Emin. Since its inception in 2017, the NGV Triennial has continued to create a lasting legacy for Victoria, with many works shown subsequently entering the NGV Collection. Of the more than 75 extraordinary projects that constitute the latest exhibition, over 25 are world-premieres commissioned by the NGV especially for the Triennial. NGV Triennial 2023 opens December 3, 2023 across all four levels of NGV International.
