Ron Mueck

The Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presents an exhibition featuring Australian artist Ron Mueck, showcasing a range of sculptures, including previously unseen works and iconic pieces, and marking Mueck’s third exhibition at the Fondation Cartier. Known for his uncanny and highly realistic sculptures, Mueck’s creations can take months or even years to complete. The exhibition’s centrepiece is the monumental installation Mass (2017), originally commissioned for the NGV Triennial 2017, featuring a reconfigured arrangement of 100 giant human skulls. Other highlights include Dead Weight (2021), a cast-iron skull retaining traces of the casting process, and a new work portraying a menacing group of large dogs. Through his evolving approach to sculpting, Mueck invites viewers to explore the boundaries between reality and dreams. The exhibition also features a short film by French photographer Gautier Deblonde, documenting the creation of Mueck’s latest works and available for viewing on the Fondation’s digital platforms. The exhibition continues until November 5, 2023.
