The Ballarat International Foto Biennale

The Ballarat International Foto Biennale (BIFB Inc.) hosts a prominent photographic arts festival every two years in the city of Ballarat, and is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2023. Taking place over 60 days from August to October, the Ballarat International Foto Biennale offers a diverse range of programs and events, including a Core Program of curated exhibitions featuring domestic and international artists, and an Open Program introducing new artists – alongside workshops, public programs, artist residencies and more. The festival is also developing a permanent gallery and art institution called the National Centre for Photography in a heritage-listed former bank building in Ballarat. With the theme of ‘The Real Thing’, the 10th edition explores how artists create meaning in an era of advancing technology, encouraging constant questioning. Highlights of the 2023 festival include over twenty exhibitions featuring more than one hundred local and international photographers, and a focus on showcasing the photography of First Nations artists. Across multiple venues, the festival creates a vibrant and accessible experience in Ballarat from August 26 to October 22, 2023.
