During the month of June, City of Melbourne will once more be transformed for the annual festival RISING. Over 12 winter nights of theatre, dance, music, largescale installation, public performance, free and low-cost experiences, and outdoor works of mass participation, RISING is a celebration en masse of Melbourne’s cultural lifeblood, literally taking the city as its stage. With the tagline “inviting audiences to reflect, reckon, rave and revel in Melbourne’s night-time culture,” RISING reimagines the city’s iconic arts and cultural centres, and embraces its hidden treasures. The program this year also includes Euphoria, RISING’s first major international commission. Held at Melbourne Town Hall, Euphoria is a multi-channel film installation on a grand scale by Berlin-based artist Julian Rosefeldt, exploring capitalism and the effects of unlimited economic growth and featuring none other than Australian icon Cate Blanchett. RISING runs from June 7–18, 2023.
