By The Time You Read This We Shall All Be Dead
For one month, praxis ARTSPACE, just outside of the Adelaide CBD in Bowden, will be presenting new works by artist Rebecca Hastings, who has been exhibiting in Melbourne and Sydney for over a decade. In this new show, personal and collective existential anxieties, symptomatic of the posthuman condition, come together to form a landscape of the mind, one that resembles the uncanny valley. Hastings, who works from her home studio in the Adelaide Hills, juxtaposes Classical rendering of conventional figurative and still life painting with gothic tropes, pop culture iconography, hard-edge graphics and Romanticism. BY THE TIME YOU READ THIS WE SHALL ALL BE DEAD plays out as memento mori, a reminder of the mortality of ourselves, our planet and the abstract concepts of innocence and humanity in the 21st century. The exhibition is on show from June 1 to July 1, 2023.
