Sekala Niskala

Footscray Community Arts in collaboration with Project 11 presents a new show curated by Mara Sison. Sekala Niskala means ‘the seen and unseen’, referring to the tangible and intangible, the physical and visible, and the supernatural forces behind them all. A free exhibition at the Roslyn Smorgon Gallery, it features the work of five contemporary Balinese artists: Agus Saputra, Kuncir Sathya Viku, Ni Luh Pangestu Widya Sari, Satya Cipta and Septa Adi. Alongside the exhibition, Footscray Community Arts will be presenting line drawing and linocut workshops run by the artists, allowing participants to learn the art of drawing and painting using the classical Balinese art technique of sigar mangsi. Whether as audience or participant, Sekala Niskala is an opportunity to experience the magic of Balinese traditional art made contemporary. The exhibition is on show until June 25, 2023.
