Perth Festival 2023

From its earliest days, Perth Festival (until March 5) has showcased inspiring work by leading local and international artists. Responding to the festival’s theme of Djinda (stars), this year selected artists explore the multiplicity and diversity of First Nations stories, learnings and beliefs, across multiple mediums. In the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Michaela Graeve considers the meaning of hope and connection through her light installation Between Us. Concurrently at Goolugatup Heathcote, artists Tami Xiang, Han Bing and Hu Xiangquian examine intersectional histories in their exhibition Beijing Realism, which recognises the ubiquitous and at times disruptive circumstances of Asia today. At PICA, Yawuru descendant Robert Andrew is showing his kinetic work Held Within a Word alongside Italian artist Rosa Barba’s first ever Australian show, Emanations, in which terrestrial and celestial realms intersect and collapse in explorations of time and space.
