Jamming with Strangers

Drawing inspiration from the Sydney music scene – particularly Western Sydney – Jamming with Strangers at Casula Powerhouse explores the intimacy, nourishment and social connection derived from music communities. The exhibition features memorabilia, costumes and artworks, including major new commissions by established and emerging Sydney artists such as Julian Day, My Le Thi and Azo Bell, Gillian Kayrooz, Kevin Diallo and Kerry Toomey. Taken together, the works demonstrate the generative power of music, fans, musicians and friends alike in creating spaces of belonging. In line with the exhibition’s celebration of the experiential, Jamming with Strangers incorporates workshops, live music and the return of the highly anticipated West Ball 3. Overarchingly, the exhibition celebrates the special relationships that make up music communities, illustrating their role in broader social cohesion. Jamming with Strangers shows at Casula Powerhouse from December 4, 2021 to February 27, 2022.
