Shaun Gladwell
Anna Schwartz Gallery

Homo Suburbiens at Anna Schwartz Gallery showcases recent works by leading Australian artist Shaun Gladwell, offering a dialogue between the moving image work that the exhibition takes its title from and a series of paintings. Homo Suburbiensis is a single channel moving image work that captures everyday actions such as eating and running, building upon Gladwell’s enduring study of human movement and adoption of performative action to explore dislocations within the everyday. The moving image work is positioned in conversation with paintings, also concerned with bodily movement, that are displayed leaning against the gallery walls. Taken as a whole, the exhibition offers a space for questioning our perception of the human body. Homo Suburbiensis is on show at Anna Schwartz Gallery until April 24, 2021
