Wansolwara:
One Salt Water

For the 2020 Sydney Festival, UNSW Galleries and 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art have collaborated to present Wansolwara: One Salt Water, a showcase of works by more than twenty artists, writers and filmmakers connected by the waters of the Great Ocean. In Solomon Islands pijin dialect, Wansolwara describes the concept of ‘one ocean, one people’. The multifaceted project celebrates the deep creativity of those connected by ‘one salt water’. The two exhibition spaces present significant contemporary works that trace connections to language, tradition, dance and ceremonial practice to reveal an expanded view of the networks and exchanges across the Great Ocean. Artists exhibiting across the Sydney venues include Sebastián Calfuqueo Aliste, Mitiana Arbon, asinnajaq, Mariquita ‘Micki’ Davis, Sarah Biscarra Dilley, Winnie Dunn, Léuli Eshraghi, Terry Faleono, Ruha Fifita, Troppo Galaktika, Amrita Hepi, Rebecca Ann Hobbs, Shivanjani Lal, Enoch Mailangi, Caroline Monnet, Faye Mullen, Paula Schaafhausen, Talia Smith, Shannon
