The launch event extrapolated the thematics of the issue as well as celebrated VAULT’s ongoing partnership with PHOTO 2022, International Festival of Photography by partnering also with the Jewish Museum of Australia to zoom in on the Museum’s world-class exhibition HELMUT NEWTON: In Focus.
Hosted by VAULT Editor Alison Kubler at the Jewish Museum of Australia, the panel event titled Polarising, surprising, loved and loathed: Unpacking the legacy of Helmut Newton’s photography grappled with sexuality, expression, innovation and censorship within art and fashion as seen through the work of Helmut Newton, as well as from the perspective of creatives working today. Panellists included the Jewish Museum of Australia Director Jessica Bram, Jewish Museum of Australia Senior Curator and Collections Manager Eleni Papavasileiou and photographer Justin Ridler.
