Economies of Deferral
Bringing together archival material and newly commissioned works, Economies of Deferral examines the social, political and environmental histories of energy production in Aotearoa New Zealand over the past 4 decades. Through the perspectives of artists Fiona Clark, Matthew Galloway, Ngahuia Harrison, Ho Rui An, Darcy Lange and John Miller, the exhibition considers how energy infrastructures intersect with Māori sovereignty, labour movements, environmental stewardship and extractive economies. By tracing the lived consequences of shifting energy policies and resource exploitation, Economies of Deferral offers a timely reflection on the ways energy shapes place, power and collective futures. Runs from August 8 to November 15.
