Poetry goes no further than language
The University of Melbourne’s Buxton Contemporary’s forthcoming exhibition, Poetry goes no further than language, offers a compelling re-examination of a pivotal yet often overlooked moment in Chinese contemporary art. Focusing on the emergence of conceptual practices in the 1980s and early 1990s, it foregrounds artists who rejected traditional aesthetics in favour of systems, logic and critical inquiry. By presenting reconstructed works, archival material and a new commission, the exhibition bridges historical experimentation with contemporary concerns. Central to this is the work of the New Measurement Group and Qian Weikang, whose practices questioned authorship and artistic intention. Until October 3.
