Dark Mofo
Dark Mofo returns to Lutruwita/Tasmania from June 11 to 22, inviting audiences to embrace winter with a program of art, performance, music, film and ritual. Expanding across Hobart, Launceston and beyond, the festival will activate unusual sites including giant warehouses, a deconsecrated church, and the 48,000-tonne Spirit of Tasmania V. Highlights include Candela Capitán’s cam-girl choreography SOLAS, Ruben Bellinkx’s gravity-defying Stasis, Kiyo Gutiérrez’s visceral border-focussed performances, and Lolo & Sosaku’s chaos-driven robot dog installations. Music spans genres and continents, featuring Princess Nokia, Sega Bodega, Power Trip, Baker Boy, Acid Mothers Temple and more. Traditional and contemporary rituals anchor the festival, from the Winter Feast and Night Mass to the Ogoh-Ogoh procession and Nude Solstice Swim. Mona will showcase monumental new works, including Julian Charrière’s sculptures, Yhonnie Scarce’s In Absence, and Ryoji Ikeda’s returning light tower.
