Rose Nolan: Breathing Helps
In Breathing Helps, acclaimed artist Rose Nolan presents a significant solo exhibition that responds to the spatial and conceptual design of TarraWarra Museum of Art. Curated by Dr Victoria Lynn, the exhibition combines Nolan’s characteristic large-scale forms and text-based works with newly commissioned, site-specific installations. Using a restrained palette of red and white, along with simple, utilitarian materials, Nolan creates environments that are rhythmic, poetic and physically engaging. Her works draw inspiration from modernist language but redirect its logic towards gestures of care. The exhibition title alludes to the physical and meditative act of breathing, framing the experience of art as both an embodied and emotional process. A new performance series by artist Shelley Lasica expands Nolan’s exploration of space and gesture into choreographic form, energising the gallery with movement and presence. Breathing Helps invites viewers to slow down, observe, and inhabit space with intention and openness, and runs August 9 to November 9, 2025.
