The Looking Hour
The Looking Hour brings together five artists: Johanna Bath, Gabrielle Dunayski, Bridget Stehli, Thérèse Mulgrew and Scout Zabinski, whose practices explore figuration as a site of possibility. Across diverse mediums, the exhibition considers how the gaze operates in visual culture, not only as a means of observation but as an expression of power, vulnerability and desire. Whether responding to art historical motifs, contemporary iconography or personal memory, the featured works delve into the emotional and psychological terrain of looking and being looked at. Some figures appear introspective or withheld; others engage the viewer with confidence or provocation. By adopting the gaze as both subject and strategy, The Looking Hour invites reflection on the politics of visibility and the intimate exchanges embedded within acts of seeing. The result is an exhibition that feels at once poetic, charged and disarmingly present. It runs from September 4 to 27, 2025.
