Beyond Fashion:
Artis Tree

A major new exhibition in partnership with the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography (FEP) is on display in Hong Kong at ArtisTree until February 24, 2019, before travelling to New Zealand and then Australia. BEYOND FASHION: Creativity in Fashion Photography features the work of the most celebrated fashion photographers working today. It brings together iconic and lesser-known images, cutting-edge technology and classical black-and-white photography, the most established names and the next generation including Nick Knight, Paolo Roversi, Peter Lindbergh, Miles Aldridge, Ellen von Unwerth, Blommers & Schumm, Sølve Sundsbø, Daniel Sannwald, Viviane Sassen and Erik Madigan Heck. Digital media has changed the way photography is reported, consumed and shared. With the explosion of street-style blogs and social media, fashion photography has become a new visual language, and is no longer restricted to the printed page. Although most of the photographs shown in this exhibition were commissioned by magazines or fashion labels, they go beyond their initial intention of selling fashion. The plurality of techniques and approaches used in fashion photography has inspired new forms of expression. A section of the exhibition presents 30 films produced by SHOWstudio over the last 18 years, since its launch in 2000 by British photographer Nick Knight. Throughout his long career, Knight has constantly pushed boundaries, technically and creatively, and he is undoubtedly among the world’s most visionary and influential imagemakers in fashion.
