Jimmy Choo Collaborates With Visual Artist Rob Pruitt

Iconic shoe and accessories designer Jimmy Choo has teamed up with renowned artist Rob Pruitt (represented by Gavin Brown’s enterprise) for the designer’s 2013 Cruise collection. After being announced in April, the first images of the highly anticipated collection have now arrived in all their riotous glory. The teaser image showcases the classic Jimmy Choo Anouk pump reimagined by incorporating Pruitt’s signature color overlaid with French lace, as well as a playful use of the artist’s famous panda motif. Pruitt’s duo of angel and devil pandas symbolizes the dual personalities of the Jimmy Choo woman. “The panda is a recurring image seen throughout the body of my artwork,” Pruitt says. “It’s a symbol that reminds us both to tread lightly and to appreciate the adorable. They represent the harmony of yin and yang.” The panda theme will be heavily incorporated into the line, featuring 19 styles of shoes, bags and accessories, set to hit stores and online this November.

This is not the first artistic collaboration for Jimmy Choo. The brand has collaborated with contemporary artists and photographers such as Nan Goldin (for the 2012 Cruise Icons collection), Marilyn Minter (the 2011 Crystal collection) and Richard Phillips (the Spring 2008 collection). “We were captivated by Pruitt’s energy, his computer-screen use of color, and the festive exuberance of his prints and materials,” says Jimmy Choo creative director Sandra Choi. “There were elements in his work that reminded us in subtle ways of the Jimmy Choo design iconography. We sensed that Rob’s twist on Jimmy Choo glamour would yield something very collectible and uniquely beautiful.”
