Step into a Brilliant Tunnel of Light in a Japanese Botanical Garden

The holiday season light shows are upon us, and while theme parks across the country may compete to outshine one another, perhaps there is no greater example in the world than Japan’s “Winter Illuminations” at Nabana no Sato Botanical Garden, located on the island of Nagashima in Kuwana. Millions of LED lights cover the garden’s broad stretch of land, including on the water, to create a spectacular event that can be seen from miles away. To go along with this year’s nature theme, Nabana no Sato created a sunrise inspired by Mount Fiji at dawn, a rainbow across the sky, and an aurora. However, the showstopper is the brilliant tunnel of light, which allows visitors to step into a hallucinatory visual feast. “Winter Illuminations” runs through March 31st, so if you plan to stay home for the holidays, there’s still an opportunity to visit in the New Year.
