New Looks for Vintage Books: Beshart Creates a Fresh Sell for Literacy Day
October 2012

In honor of International Literacy Day—a 47-year-old initiative that shines an international spotlight on reading—Belgian design studio Beshart, premiered a poster project creating new, eye-catching covers for the 100 Greatest Novels of All Time (according to the London Observer). Titled “DoeDeMee,” the collection features contemporary work by 100 artists from 28 countries, using fresh trends in illustration and design to draw attention to the venerable titles. The posters for Lolita, A Catcher in the Rye, Anna Karenina, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and 96 others are available for purchase at 35 euros each, with proceeds going to the United Nations in support of educational programs in Africa.—Amy Ferguson www.doedemee.be
